Who We Are

Founded in 2012 by two brothers, Blowfish Technology brings together a team with more than 50 years’ combined experience delivering managed IT support, cyber security and communications services across the North West and the UK.

We work to build long-lasting relationships with all of our clients – taking a straightforward, no-pressure approach to understanding your requirements. Our focus is always your business and how we can help you grow through better technology.

From a garage in Ormskirk to a team of 20+ – here’s how Blowfish Technology grew into the North West’s trusted IT partner.

2012

Blowfish is Founded

Matthew and Graham Palfreyman established Blowfish Technology Limited, setting the foundations for what would become a trusted North West IT partner.

Q1 2013

The Idea Takes Shape

Two brothers – one an IT Consultant, one a Graphic Designer – took a chance on a single customer. No office, no roadmap. Just ambition and a shared belief they could build something great.

Q1 2013

The Name & Logo

Passionate about watersports, the brothers wanted something quirky. After many ideas, the Blowfish Technology brand was born. Matthew hand-drew the iconic logo – bold, distinctive and entirely their own.

Q2 2013

The Garage Office

Following in the footsteps of great tech companies, Blowfish set up its first office in the garage. It wasn’t glamorous – but it was theirs, and the work was real.

Q1 2014

Product Suite Launch

The team launched a full product catalogue – Turtle Total Support, Dolphin Design, Stingray Spam Filter, Octopus CMS and Starfish Web Design – each with a distinctive aquatic identity.

Q2 2014

First Real Office

Growth demanded more space. The team moved into an incubator office at West Lancashire Investment Centre in Skelmersdale – a proper base for a growing business.

Q3 2014

3 Members of Staff

The team began to take shape. Three people working together to build something that would serve businesses across the North West for years to come.

Q1 2015

New Website

A new web developer joined and launched Blowfish’s first purpose-built website – a key step in putting the company on the map and driving the marketing strategy forward.

Q4 2015

6 Members of Staff

Michael, Stephen and Daryl joined the team, growing the support capability and allowing Blowfish to take on larger, more complex client environments.

Q2 2016

Office Expansion

The team took over the neighbouring office and knocked down the dividing wall – creating room for a proper comms room, engineering workspace and meeting room.

Q2 2016

9 Staff & April Joins

The development and support teams continued to grow. April Palfreyman joined as Company Administrator – a role that would evolve significantly as the company scaled.

Q3 2017

Engineers’ Build Room

A purpose-built comms and build room gave engineers dedicated space to construct complete client networks and support disaster recovery environments.

Q3 2018

Datacentre Expansion

Infrastructure moved into a Tier 4 datacentre in Milton Keynes and a second facility at Bletchley Park – dual power, dual air con, dual 10Gb internet, ISO 27001 certified.

2019

Blowfish Cloud Launches

Partnering with VMware, Blowfish launched its own fully managed public cloud platform – giving clients enterprise-grade infrastructure backed by world-class datacentres.

2020

Cloud Growth & Sales Team

Two more Manchester datacentre locations opened with internal fibre links. Sales Manager Nick joined – a long-time friend of the business – to build out the sales team and strategy.

Q3 2020

Hattersley Court

Blowfish moved from managed offices into its own dedicated premises at Hattersley Court, Ormskirk – a milestone marking the transition from startup to established business.

2021

18 Staff & New Website

Despite global uncertainty, Blowfish continued to grow. A new website launched and April Palfreyman was promoted to Social Media Manager to raise Blowfish’s profile across the North West.
