What’s the difference between a hosted desktop and Microsoft 365?
A hosted desktop gives you a full Windows desktop environment in the cloud – including any business applications you use, like accounts software, CRM or industry-specific tools. Microsoft 365 provides cloud-based productivity apps (Word, Excel, Teams, email). Many businesses use both together – Microsoft 365 for communication and collaboration, hosted desktop for accessing line-of-business applications remotely.
Is my data safe in the cloud?
When properly configured, cloud infrastructure can be significantly more secure than on-premise systems. Blowfish Technology implements enterprise-grade access controls, encryption, multi-factor authentication and continuous monitoring across all cloud deployments. All data is stored in UK-based data centres, compliant with UK GDPR.
How long does a cloud migration take?
This depends on the complexity of your current environment and the size of your team. A straightforward hosted desktop migration for a small business can typically be completed within a few days. Larger or more complex migrations are planned in phases to minimise disruption – we’ll give you a realistic timeline after our initial assessment.
Can we still use our existing software in the cloud?
In most cases, yes. Hosted desktop environments are fully customisable – we can install and configure your existing business applications in the cloud environment. There are some exceptions for software with hardware licence keys or very specific hardware dependencies, which we’ll identify during the initial assessment.
What happens if our internet goes down?
For cloud-dependent services, a reliable internet connection is essential. We always recommend having a secondary internet connection as a failover – something we can also arrange through our Connectivity services. For critical applications, we can also design hybrid solutions that maintain local access during outages.
Can you manage our existing cloud environment?
Yes – we regularly take over management of cloud environments that were set up by other providers or internally. We’ll start with a full audit to identify any security gaps, misconfigurations or performance issues, and then take over day-to-day management.
